Murphy's Hollow Spring

Welcome to my new blog! I'm so excited that my website and blog are now linked.  It may not seem like a big deal to you, but I love everything being synced! Makes my life sooo much easier (I hope, I'm still getting used to this one). Wow, I've been so busy with portraits that I've hardly had time to share art images.  Since it is slow season for portraits and I'm finally caught up with blogging, I'm able to share these!

A couple months ago, Lucas and I went to a wedding on Sand Mountain in Alabama.  Afterwards, we just drove.  This is one of our favorite things to do.  Lucas gets really excited when he finds a road he's never been on, I get really excited when I find something cool to take pictures of.

This particular waterfall intrigued us both.  Lucas loves to study Civil War history, so while I took pictures of the beautiful waterfall he was reading about the history of Murphy's Hollow Spring.

Murphy's Hollow Spring

During the Civil War, Union soldiers set up camp here due to the fresh water source.  Apparently, this area was a major route for movements during the Chickamauga campain.  There are rumors of confederate graves near this site.  Today, there's a PVC pipe that juts out from the top of the falls so you can stop and fill up bottles of the fresh spring water.  It wasn't exceptionally pretty, so I didn't include it in the images.

Wow...You have really captured the essence of this wonderful spring and waterfall....! My brother and I found the spring site yesterday, and when I googled it to find more info, the first thing I found was your photo..... This IS a magic place, one of the gushing sources of blessing that the Creator and Mother Nature have granted for us mortals...! The Earth has mercy on us and provides us with gifts that we often take for granted....It's good to know that other folks recognize this gift, as well......

I believe Murphy's Hollow is a spiritual place. From the first time I saw it I became capitaved with it's beauty. When I'm in the area I always return to Murphy's and on every visit something new awaits. I have met many interesting people who have shared their knowledge of the area. Murphy's provides drinking water for countless families. So, although it is not pretty, the PVC pipe delivers water that is rumored to be 99% pure. I love your photos. You have truly captured the majesty that is Murphy's Hollow!
