Wilder Tower

As I'm sure many others who grew up in Chattanooga do, I have many fond memories of the Chickamauga Battlefield.  We used to go there every year for Pops in the Park.  The Chattanooga Symphony would play until dark, and we'd run around, catch grasshoppers and play.  The night was topped off with HUGE fireworks booming over the symphony's patriotic melody.  This place reminds me of those summers.  These days, the 4th of July celebration has moved to Coolidge Park, and is soooo much more crowded than I ever remember the battlefield being.  Still fun, but there's something about a childhood tradition!

This is "the tower" at the Battlefied, as I've always called it.    I was in Georgia the other day and decided to drive around the battlefield.  I haven't been there in a very long time.  When I got to the tower, the gate was open! You couldn't go inside it for years, so of COURSE I had to go in.  The spiral staircase winds round and round til you reach the top.  After I regained control of my legs (yeah, that fear of heights thing gets in the way sometimes), I went to the edge and looked out at the gorgeous view. You can see the whole battlefield from there.  I'd really like to go back at sunset!
